Storage in Islington at a glance
Container storage from £30 per week (inc VAT) including insurance. Each sealed 250 cubic foot container (about 7 cubic metres) holds roughly 30 to 40 boxes or the contents of a large room. A 1-bed flat typically needs 1 to 2 containers. We collect from every N1 address and can also collect from N5, N7 and EC1. Storage is at our secure Rainham (RM13) facility. Collection and delivery are quoted separately as a removal job. The first week is free with any removal.
Need storage in Islington? Container storage starts at £30 per week (inc VAT) with insurance included. And the first week is FREE when you book any removal with us.
I run London House Removals and I have been collecting and storing belongings across Islington since 2010. Whether you are between homes in Canonbury, renovating a flat near Upper Street, or just need more space in Barnsbury, my crew does the heavy lifting. We collect from your door, seal everything into tagged containers at our facility in Rainham, and bring it back when you are ready. You never see the inside of a storage unit unless you want to.

What does storage cost in Islington?
£30 per week (inc VAT) per 250 cubic foot container. That is the headline number. Insurance is included in the weekly price. What is not included is collection and delivery, which are priced as a separate removal job. That keeps the storage rate honest and predictable.
How many containers you will need:
These are ballpark figures. I quote properly after a quick video survey or phone call. It takes about 10 to 20 minutes and it is free. Storage is billed in 4-week blocks. If you vacate early, refunds are calculated per full week remaining.
What is included: sealed container storage at our secure facility in Rainham (RM13), and insurance included.
What is not included: collection and delivery from your Islington address (priced as a removal job), packing service if you want us to pack for you, container inspection at £30 (inc VAT), and assisted access at £24 (inc VAT) per hour per person if you ever need to go through your things.

Container storage vs self-storage
There are two ways to store with me. One is hands-off, the other gives you your own keys. The right choice depends on whether you want regular access or set-and-forget security.
Most Islington customers go with container storage. Your things sit in a sealed, tagged container and nobody touches them until you need them back. The facility is not on Upper Street with window displays and polished floors. It is an industrial unit in Rainham, which is exactly why we can offer storage at £30 per week (inc VAT) instead of £60 plus.
If you do want self-storage with your own keys, I arrange rooms through Big Yellow and we handle the transport from your Islington home. You pick the location that suits you.
For more on both options, see my Storage Solutions London page. For a full breakdown of how container and self-storage prices compare across London, see my how much storage costs in London guide.
What fits in a 250 cubic foot container?
A single container holds roughly 30 to 40 standard moving boxes, or the contents of one large room without the furniture. With furniture, think of it this way:
- 1-bed flat: 1 to 2 containers (living room set, bedroom furniture, kitchen boxes, personal items)
- 2-bed house: 2 to 4 containers (full home contents including white goods and a sofa suite)
- 3-bed house: 4 to 6 containers (the contents of a family home, including dining furniture, multiple beds, and a full kitchen)
- A few rooms’ worth: 1 container covers the contents of a large reception room plus hallway clutter, or two bedrooms without beds
Each container is 250 cubic feet. That is about 7 cubic metres. A standard three-seater sofa fits with room to stack boxes around it. Wardrobes and large bookcases stay intact inside the container. I do not expect you to take your furniture apart.
If you are unsure how many you need, I look at what you have during the survey and tell you exactly.
How storage in Islington works
If you need access during storage, we can arrange it. £30 inspection fee (inc VAT). If you need to go through items inside, assisted access is £24 per hour (inc VAT) per person, minimum 2 hours.
Also: if you are moving home in Islington at the same time, the collection and redelivery can often be combined with your removal job. That saves you money. One truck instead of two. Tell me during the survey and I will price it as a single job.
If you are moving within or out of Islington, see my removals Islington page.
Parking and access in Islington
I collect from every part of Islington. N1 covers Angel, Barnsbury, Canonbury and the streets around Upper Street. N5 and N7 cover Highbury, Holloway, Tufnell Park and Drayton Park. EC1 covers Clerkenwell and Finsbury, which sit on the edge of the borough. If you are anywhere inside the Borough of Islington, I know your area.
Islington is almost entirely Controlled Parking Zones. Most residential streets need a bay suspension for a removals truck. You can apply for a parking bay suspension on the Islington Council website. Cost is typically £40 to £70 per bay. Apply at least a week before collection day. I help you work out what you need and walk you through the process.
What to know about collecting from an Islington address:
- The Georgian terraces around Barnsbury, Canonbury and Lloyd Baker Street have narrow front doors and tight stairwells. Many are listed or in conservation areas. I bring the right equipment and plan the loading point to protect both your belongings and the building.
- Upper Street and the Angel are busy one-way systems. I time the collection to avoid peak traffic and confirm access with building management if your flat is above a commercial unit.
- Holloway Road (the A1) is a TfL Red Route. No stopping outside designated loading bays. Check TfL’s Red Route rules if your property is on or near the A1.
- Flats around Highbury and Islington station and near Emirates Stadium often have shared access or permit-only parking. I confirm the arrangement well before the day. If Arsenal are playing at home, we plan around the match-day restrictions. Emirates Stadium is on Hornby Road and the match-day parking restrictions cover a wide area.
- The flats and conversions around Angel have limited loading windows in the morning. I check with building management beforehand.
- I bring floor coverings for every job. Hallways, stairs, landings, all protected.
