Searching for storage in London usually brings up the same big self-storage names. The problem with those places is simple: you do all the work. Rent a van. Drive across town. Haul your stuff into a unit. And do it all in reverse when you are ready to move things out.
That is not what we do. London House Removals offers two ways to store your things: our container storage service where we handle everything, or self-storage rooms we arrange and manage on your behalf. We also provide house removals in London — many customers book storage and removals together. Either way, you are not doing it alone.

These are ballpark figures. We quote properly after a quick video survey or phone call. It takes about 10 to 20 minutes and it is free.
New customer offer: first week FREE. Your first container is on us. After that, the standard £30/week rate applies. Mention the offer when you enquire.
What is included: sealed container storage at our secure facility in Rainham (RM13), insurance included. Nothing extra to pay.
What is not included: higher insurance cover (quoted separately), packing service (optional), container inspection (£30 inc VAT per five containers), and assisted access for a mover to help you go through your items (£24 inc VAT per hour per person, 2-hour minimum).
If you need to vacate early, refunds are calculated per full week remaining. Not per day.
Self-storage rooms: we arrange it, you just show up
Some people want daily access to their things. Some people want to visit on a Sunday and rifle through boxes. That is not how container storage works, and that is fine. We also arrange self-storage rooms through Big Yellow Self Storage, usually their Edmonton branch on Advent Way N18, but we can book other locations too.

Prices vary by facility, time of year, and other factors Big Yellow control. We cannot publish fixed rates. What we can do: get a quote on your behalf, book the room, transport your things there, and load everything in.
How self-storage works with us. We have two levels of involvement, you pick:
Hands-off (we manage everything): We arrange the quote, book the room, move your items in, and hold the keys. You just tell us when you want things collected or delivered. If you need to inspect your items, we send a mover to accompany you (£24 inc VAT per hour, 2-hour minimum, 8 days notice).
Hands-on (you keep the keys): We transport and load your items into the room, then hand you the keys. You visit whenever you want during Big Yellow’s opening hours. No notice needed. No mover needed. Just drive there and walk in.
Early move-out refunds for self-storage are calculated per day (unlike container storage, which is per week).
1st week of storage is FREE with any removal. No catches. No hidden terms. Just mention it when you book.
How our container storage works
Four steps, start to finish:
Step 1
You tell us what you need. Call, email, or fill out the Get Your Free Quote. We will ask what you are storing, roughly how much there is, and where it is coming from. If you are not sure about quantities, that is fine. Most people are not. We will sort it out on the survey.
Step 2
We do a quick survey (10 to 20 minutes). Video call or in-person visit. Your choice. We assess what is going into storage, figure out how many containers you will need, and give you a fixed price. No obligation.
Step 3
We collect and store. On the agreed day, our team arrives, loads everything into our vans, and takes it to our secure storage facility in Rainham, Essex. Each container is sealed with a unique tag. Your stuff stays in that container until you need it back. It never gets mixed with anyone else’s belongings. The facility is operated by Trek Removals & Storage, a BAR-registered (British Association of Removers) member.
Step 4
We redeliver when you are ready. Give us 7 days notice and we will bring your containers to wherever you need them. Your new home, your old one, a different address entirely. We will even unpack if you want us to. That is an add-on, so ask when you book.
Remember: your first week of container storage is FREE when you book any removal with us. That takes the pressure off if your move dates shift at the last minute.
What fits in a 250 cubic container?
Each container is 250 cubic feet, roughly 7 cubic metres. Internal dimensions: height 2.35m, width 1.52m, depth 2.13m. About the size of a large garden shed.
This is what one holds:
A double bed (dismantled) with mattress
A three-seater sofa
A chest of drawers and bedside table
10-15 standard moving boxes
A few lamps, small tables, and odd bits
Or, for box-only storage: about 30-40 standard tea-chest boxes.
If you are packing yourself, use small and large double-wall boxes. Single-wall ones buckle under weight in storage. Read our room-by-room packing guide for a room-level walkthrough. We sell proper packing materials or can point you toward where to get them.

Best for
Set-and-forget: between moves, long-term storage
Regular access: decluttering, business stock
If you want to visit your stuff regularly, go self-storage. If you want it stored safely and brought back when you are ready, container storage is simpler. And usually cheaper once you add it all up. Either way, your first week is FREE when you book a removal with us.
When do Londoners need storage?
Storage sounds like one of those things you will never need until suddenly you do. These are the situations our customers are usually in.
Between house moves
The classic. You have sold your place but the purchase has not completed yet. Chain delays are standard in London. You might need storage for anywhere from a week to three months. We handle the move and the storage in one job, so you are not coordinating two different companies.
Downsizing
Moving from a 3-bed in Finchley to a 2-bed flat closer to central? You will have furniture that does not fit. Store it while you decide what to sell, donate, or offer to family. Some customers keep things in storage for months while they figure it out. That is fine.
Renovation work
Builders need clear rooms. Plaster dust gets into everything. Rather than shuffling furniture from room to room and watching it get covered in muck, put it in storage for the duration of the work. We collect before the builders start and redeliver when they are done.
Landlord / rental gaps
If you are a landlord between tenancies, or a tenant whose lease is ending before the next place is ready, storage bridges the gap. It is cheaper than paying rent on two properties.
Decluttering before selling
Estate agents will tell you: a decluttered house photographs better and sells faster. Clear out the excess into storage, get the place looking spacious, and bring stuff back once you have moved. It is a small upfront cost that can genuinely affect your sale price.
Areas we cover for storage

Do not see your area? Ask. We go pretty much everywhere within Greater London and occasionally beyond. If you are in a ULEZ zone or have tricky parking, let us know upfront. We deal with London access issues every day and can usually sort it.
Storage for businesses
If you are a business (office, shop, restaurant, gallery) that needs short or long-term storage, we handle that as well. Office furniture, stock, archive files, exhibition stands, trade show materials. Anything you would rather not have cluttering up expensive London square footage. Same containers, same process, just applied to commercial stuff. We also handle office removals when you need to relocate your business. Ask about our business rates.
Frequently asked questions
Do you offer any storage promotions?+
Yes. If you book a removal with us, your first week of storage is FREE. No catches. Whether you need one container or several, that first week costs you nothing. It is our way of taking the pressure off when completion dates do not line up. Just mention it when you book and we will take care of the rest.
How much is storage per month in London?+
Container storage with us is £30 per container per week (inc VAT) (£120/month for one container, £240-480/month for a typical 2-bed house needing 2-3 containers). That includes insurance. Self-storage rooms via Big Yellow vary by location and season. We quote those case by case.
What is the cheapest way to get storage?+
Container storage with a removal company like us. You are not paying for premium high-street locations, 24/7 access you will never use, or fancy reception areas. You are paying for a secure container at a warehouse, with collection and delivery handled for you. For most London moves, it is the most cost-effective option. Plus the first week is free when you book a removal with us.
How much does a storage container cost in London?+
Our containers are £30 per week per container (inc VAT). That covers a 250 cubic foot (7 m³) sealed container with insurance included. 4-week billing period. The first week is free when booked as part of a removal.
Are containers cheaper than a self-storage unit?+
Usually, yes. Especially for medium to large volumes. Self-storage units charge per square foot and the rates climb fast in London. Our 250 cu ft containers are £30/week with no extras for collection or redelivery. The bigger the volume, the more container storage saves you. Plus you are not doing the heavy lifting.
Can I access my items while they are in storage?+
Container storage: yes, by arrangement. 7 days notice, £30 inc VAT inspection fee and mover assistance for £24 inc VAT per hour (2-hour minimum). Self-storage: if you hold the keys, you can visit anytime during Big Yellow’s opening hours. No notice needed. If we manage the keys for you, inspections need 8 days notice and a mover to accompany you (£24 inc VAT per hour, 2-hour minimum). Choose based on how often you think you will need access.
Is my stuff insured while it is in storage?+
Yes. Container storage includes insurance in the weekly price. If you need higher coverage, we will quote that separately. For self-storage rooms, insurance is calculated by Big Yellow based on the declared value. We also recommend checking whether your home contents insurance covers items in storage. Many policies do, and it can save you money.
What items should not go in storage?+
No perishable food, live plants, animals, flammable materials (cans of paint, petrol, chemicals, gas bottles), illegal items, cash, or jewellery. We also recommend keeping irreplaceable valuables and important documents with you rather than in storage. If you are unsure about something specific, ask us before packing it.
How quickly can you collect?+
Usually within a few working days of booking, sometimes next day depending on the schedule. If it is genuinely urgent (completion date moved, landlord pressure), call us and we will see what we can do. We keep some capacity for emergencies.
How do I get my things back?+
For container storage: email or call with 7 days notice, tell us where and when you want delivery, and we will bring everything. For self-storage where we hold the keys: 8 days notice for delivery. We can redeliver to a different address than the collection address. This is the most common scenario: storing things between house moves.
What is the minimum storage period?+
For container storage no long-term contracts. You are not locked into anything. Self-storage minimum terms vary by Big Yellow facility.
Do I need to pack everything myself?+
No, but you can if you want. We offer a full packing service where our team packs everything professionally using proper materials. If you would rather do it yourself, we can supply boxes and packing materials. Half-and-half is fine too: you pack the books and clothes, we handle the fragile items, kitchenware and furniture.
Can I switch from storage to removals mid-way?+
Yes, that is the most common scenario. People store their belongings between moves, then when the new place is ready, we deliver everything there instead of back to the original address. Just let us know the new address when you are ready and we will handle it.
Is it worth paying for storage?+
If you are between moves, renovating, or downsizing: yes, absolutely. Storage bridges the gap between dates and gives you breathing room. The cost of a few weeks or months of storage is almost always less than the cost of rushed decisions, double rent, or damaged furniture. And with our first-week-free offer, the initial cost is zero.
