Providing Information for Movers

When providing information for movers, you need to include as many details about your “move out” and “move in” property as possible.

It is the key step in helping movers to understand your circumstances, so they can create an accurate quotation for your moving job. There may be a time when you need to organize your move when you are away from home, or perhaps conducting a survey in person or a video call to look at your household is not possible for other reasons. Then you will need to make sure to include as many details as possible when providing information for movers. In this article we will guide you through this process from A to Z.

First things first:

  • Inform movers about the size of your current property and anticipated removal date.
  • Let them know about any time limitations to vacate. When there is a bit of time overlap on both properties, there is no pressure to vacate early. However, it makes a significant difference when you are moving in a chain of families. Then everybody needs to be out of their property around the same time for the swap to be effective. This calls for more precision in organising all the moves.

Details of your property:

  • Provide full addresses of your current and destination property.
  • Inform movers on what floors both properties are based. Things are easier when you move out of a house and move into a house. However, if one or both are a flat or an apartment in a tower block, there might be a long corridor in the building. Let them know about its length, as this might call for organising more men to accomplish your job.
  • Also, tell movers if there is a lift available for them to use.

Parking provisions:

  • Be specific about parking conditions at both addresses. Let them know about distance from the nearest parking bay to the door of your house, or to a lift / staircase if you live in a block of flats.
  • Tell them if there are residents parking bays or specially designated loading bays available.
  • If you possess a private driveway, send measurements, as movers need to make sure, if it is big enough for their vehicle to fit.

Details of your household:

  • Provide a comprehensive list of your furniture and other items that need to be moved. List all the items that need dismantling, such as: beds, wardrobes, extra-large bookcases, baby cots, dining tables, desks, garden trampolines, treadmills and other odd-shape or extra-large equipment.
  • If you possess one of those sliding-door type wardrobes, movers also must be aware of it, as it will call for more time to dismantle and assemble it.

Accurate boxes estimation:

Carefully estimate the number of boxes needed for packing your items. This will help to calculate accurately the total volume of your household. Unless you moved your home at least a few times in the past, it is likely that you might underestimate the number of boxes required. We do not mean to be condescending here. Simply, when looking at items on shelves, it does not feel like they need many boxes. Majority of people who move their homes for the first time, underestimate the number of boxes needed for the job by half. Just take our word for it 😊, our wisdom comes from years of experience in the trade!
